A theme for me this week seems to be the number of articles coming out about how our legal system and lawyers have been taken over like we witnessed the medical system and doctors over the last few years. Here’s a good introduction to the shift in Western societies from the rule of law to the rule by law.

Talk about not seeing the obvious even if it hit you in the face.

Re: Incorrect assertions about the UN “Pact for the Future” The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution titled “Pact for the Future” on Monday 23 September 2024. The procedural non-binding resolution was adopted by consensus, without an official vote or signing, by all 193 United Nations Member States.
This has been conflated with a vote held on a separate amendment.
It is important to note that General Assembly resolutions are recommendations and are not legally binding.
In New Zealand’s national statement to the General Assembly following adoption of the resolution, New Zealand’s UN Ambassador noted that New Zealand has long been a benefactor and beneficiary of the international rules-based system; and that we are committed to engaging constructively in all efforts which seek to contemporise global governance for today and the future.
In the coalition agreement between New Zealand First and National we ensured that “a 'National Interest Test' is undertaken before New Zealand accepts any agreements from the UN and its agencies that limit national decision-making and reconfirm that New Zealand's domestic law holds primacy over any international agreements.”
In summary, the 'Pact for the Future' is non binding held no vote or signing was adopted by consensus is not a UN agreement that limits national decision-making New Zealand First stands firm on our coalition agreement commitment.
